WHY CERTIFICATION MATTERS - WEBSTER TECHNIQUE & PERINATAL CERTIFICATION

Not All Chiropractic Care
During Pregnancy Is Equal.

Most chiropractors are comfortable working with pregnant women. We are certified specialists.

Here is why that difference matters for you and your baby.

Webster Technique Certification

The Webster Technique is a specific chiropractic sacral analysis and adjustment. Its purpose is to reduce the effects of SI joint dysfunction and balance the pelvis, improving the function of the pelvis, the supporting muscles and ligaments, and the nervous system throughout pregnancy.

When the sacrum is misaligned, it creates tension in the uterine ligaments that can restrict the space available for the growing baby, contributing to pain, discomfort, and sub-optimal fetal positioning. By correcting this misalignment, we allow the uterus to function more symmetrically and the baby to move more freely.

Webster Certification requires specific training, examination, and ongoing education. Both Dr. Emily and Dr. Bailee are Webster Technique Certified, meaning every pregnant patient receives expert-level pelvic care, not general adjustments.

Perinatal Certification

Perinatal Certification through the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association (ICPA) is the highest level of specialized training available for chiropractic care during the perinatal period, covering preconception through postpartum. It goes far beyond Webster Technique.

Perinatal Certified chiropractors understand the hormonal cascade of relaxin and its effect on joint stability, the neurological demands of a growing uterus and baby on the maternal nervous system, the biomechanics of labor and how pelvic alignment affects its progression, and the postpartum realignment process that begins immediately after birth.

When you come to Nurture, you are not getting a chiropractor who sees pregnant patients. You are getting a perinatal specialist, one of very few in South Dakota, who has dedicated their practice to this population.

SPECIALIZED PREGNANCY CARE - SIOUX FALLS AREA

Why Chiropractic Care
During Pregnancy Matters.

Pregnancy puts extraordinary demand on your body. As your center of gravity shifts, your pelvis widens, and your ligaments loosen, your spine and nervous system are working harder thane ever to keep up.

When the pelvis is misaligned or the nervous system is under stress, it can lead to discomfort, tension, and complications that affect both you and your baby. Chiropractic care during pregnancy with a trained provider helps restore pelvic balance, reduce nerve interference, and support your body's ability to adapt through every trimester.

WHAT NURTURE FAMILY CHIROPRACTIC MAMAS SAY

They Tell Us The Same Thing ---
"I Wish I Had Come Sooner"

"I was referred to Dr. Emily by two close friends, both which suggested after I started to experiencing discomfort early into my fifth pregnancy. I am not new to chiropractic care but had never received any with my prior pregnancies. I have been utilizing her services for almost half my pregnancy now, and I cannot say enough good things about how much better my body over all feels carrying this pregnancy unlike my others."

-Second Trimester Mama

"This is my first pregnancy receiving chiropractic care. I was also “advanced maternal age” this time. This is by far the smoothest pregnancy, delivery, and postpartum experience ever had of my 3! I was comfortable and was able to move my body my whole pregnancy and this is the first time I went into labor naturally without an induction! Baby was positioned perfectly and I had minimal pushing."

- Postpartum Mom of 3

"I started seeing Dr Emily during my pregnancy with my third child. I was having trouble with my SI joint and pelvic pain. I also had a lot of pelvic pressure from excess fluid due to my gestational diabetes. In the third trimester, I learned that my baby was breech. My baby flipped on her own without any other intervention. Dr Emily is very knowledgeable with prenatal chiropractic care and I’m so grateful for all the relief I received after a few sessions with her."

WHAT OUR PATIENTS WANT TO KNOW

Frequently Asked Questions

Is chiropractic care safe during pregnancy?

Yes. As Perinatal Certified Chiropractors, we use gentle, pregnancy-specific techniques and are certified in the Webster Technique through the ICPA. Chiropractic is widely recognized as safe throughout all trimesters.

When should I start seeing a chiropractor during pregnancy?

You can begin at any stage. Many patients start in the first trimester for nervous system support, while others come in the second or third trimester when discomfort increases. The earlier you start, the more time your body has to adapt.

How often should I get adjusted while pregnant?

Frequency depends on your individual needs. Some patients benefit from weekly visits, while others come biweekly. We'll recommend a schedule based on your assessment.

Can chiropractic help with a shorter labor?

Research suggests that women who receive regular chiropractic care during pregnancy may experience shorter labor times and fewer interventions. Pelvic balance and nervous system function both play a role in how efficiently labor progresses.

Do you offer postpartum care?

Absolutely. Postpartum chiropractic is a core part of what we do. We support recovery, realignment, and the physical transition into life with a newborn.
